Imagine

A vintage Playboy magazine.A few weeks before John Lennon was assassinated, his interview with Playboy was on the shelves and my family was lucky enough to have a copy. Yeah, Playboy was in the house, but only for the articles, according to my father—especially this one. So, imagine how surreal it was when he was shot outside of his apartment on that winter day, and we had the magazine. My sister, doing her best as she always does, decided that the article/interview should be preserved. So, she carefully cut the pages out of the magazine, slipped them into a plastic document protector and proudly showed the rest of the family how smart she was. Little did we know that the article would only be worth something as part of the magazine as a whole. Oh well. Recently, during one of our more enjoyable move-in/move-out, downsizing, clean-out projects, we found the magazine, in nearly pristine condition. My sister and I will preserve this one, and if we lie to ourselves long enough, we will come to believe that it is actually the original one we purchased from Super X Drugs in Plainview.
