My Mother Was Right
I have been a member of that unfortunate club of women whose parents are no longer with us since I was 42 years old. While my parents were both in hospice in the Fall of 2005, the hospice nurse Anne told me to be on the lookout for winks from my mother (and my father, who turned my parents’ marriage into a love story when he died nine days after she did). So for the last almost 21 years, I have been on the lookout. Most days, I don’t even really have to look that hard. They just come. The universe has blessed me with this business of downsizing, sorting, organizing, packing, unpacking and cleaning out homes, filled with winks from my mom and dad. Right after my mother passed in Sept. 2005, I instantaneously thought to myself and then uttered aloud, to no one in particular but my mother’s immortal soul—”you were literally right about everything.” So, when I saw this in my client’s home a few weeks ago, it was added to a long catalog of winks I have been receiving for more than two decades. Thanks, Mom.
