It’s no secret that people are suffering. Sometimes it hits our community or ourselves.
Because I have what I need, like so many, I constantly ask, “what can I do to help?”
In the short term, for me that question has a simple answer. What can I do about people who don’t have enough to eat? The answer is a partial but useful solution: I can share what I have while I can. I can also ask and organize others to do that
too. Call Sheilah! does that often and well, with so many of the things our generous clients donate and share.
Call Sheilah! did this specifically with food and funds to address, in a small way, the food scarcity horrors that so many of our neighbors are
experiencing. I asked a few select and generous clients to assist with our support for a local institution @sheridanprep, an Albany Public School, has its own food pantry for their families living in harm’s way. We dropped off supplies and funds. (Funds are actually more valuable for food banks because they are able to buy $15 worth of supplies for $5)
People are starving and struggling and while being generous at Christmas time should be a real thing, being generous, thoughtful and deliberate throughout the year, has and is more than ever, a massive need.
This week, we dropped off culturally specific
food for Sheridan Prep’s pantry. I shopped at three different markets that provide
culturally specific staples and comfort foods--not just items that are familiar to
the dominant culture, but food from Latin Bodegas and Halal Markets on Central Avenue. Everyone deserves to eat, and everyone deserves choices that are familiar and comforting in some small way.
If other businesses and individuals continue to take actions like this frequently, not just in November and December, we will have an impact on the communities now. If we all work to dismantle a system that only values wealth, we may be able to see our way through the current horrors and lay the groundwork for a healthy,
justice filled community in the future.
If you have questions or want my assistance in organizing your own action, you know what to do. It’s in the name: Call Sheilah!

Thanks @gabriellain109 and @albanyjcc for a really fun time and great networking event.
We talked about downsizing, latkes, moving, packing, how much crap everyone has, ate candy and everyone loved my dear mother`s Mah Jongg Menorah. She left it to me when she passed 20 years ago. Thats a good thing...cause I bought it for her in the first place.
Great work and thank you @lisamelisa13

Call Sheilah! (and anyone doing this work with people who are grieving) knows this well.
You dont have to do it alone.
Asking For Help Is A Spiritual Act!
Give us a call when you are ready. We`ve worked with grieivng partners who waited years; grieving children who waited weeks; and grieving parents who waited and then changed their minds.
We will hold space for whatever comes up: crying, grieving, laughing, or nothing.
One of my clients is rehoming two beautiful cats. Please spread the word and of course, consider them yourself if you are a cat person in need of cats like these:
Oliver - the one in the sink, is a five year old neutered male. Sweet and shy, but warms up over time. Doesn`t like loud noises.
Abby - is a 14 year old spayed, sweet girl. She walks like a racoon, is friendly, good with kids, good with dogs and has a silent meow.
Ideally, they go together, but they are not really that attached to each other. They also live in Voorheesville and spend a lot of time outside. Indoors would be an adjustment, but they have done it. Would need a bit of litter box reminder, as right now, the great out doors is their toilet.
Please get in touch and tell me you want them both!

We love a good partnership with cool, professional people.
When @hamiltonparcliving did the smart thing and picked up the phone to Call Sheilah! we responded with enthusiasm.
I mean, how cool is this?
Call Sheilah! will be on site to talk about downsizing, among other things. Anyone who knows our work and our brand, is in for an event that will at times be comical and will of course always be thoughtful, professional, straightforward and apparently delicious because @bellanapolibakery is providing the delights.
Join us. It`s like downsizing stand up comedy, and of course there will be tips, tricks and suggestions for how to get started (never too soon to downsize) on your your relocation journey. Thanks for making the connect @lisamelisa13.
See you there. Call Sheilah! with questions.

This guy, Brody, was on site at a job yesterday. Every time I turned around there he was.
He spent the entire day supporting our packing services and it felt suspiciously like he was angling for a job.

These dear people, who became my clients in 2016, and then became friends shortly there after, are doing the thing.
They bought a house a few years ago, thinking they would raise bees, build tree houses, host so many parties and fundraisers, and ultimately age well here. With a few turn of events, both politically and personally, they are moving over seas.
But first, they had to downsize, sort, organize, sell, and then get rid of the remaining crap. We know that story well and because they`ve done it so many times, they pretty much did it on their own. And what a job they did!
As friend Sheilah, a distinction I often have to make with friends, I was impressed with their resilience and relentlessness and offered help but not "on the clock" services.
They did a great job and I hope they were influenced by me throughout the last decade. I suspect I was influenced by them as well.
I respect, love and admire all of that and both of these lovely people. They are kind, zany, fun, driven, interesting, silly, caring, loving, and they will be missed by lots of people in the Capital Region, but specifically by me.
@surefootedfilmsny, I will do my best to sell what you specifically asked me to sell, and if i cannot, I will find homes for them.
Your absence has already left a void.
Be safe, be zany, and be in touch!

This is a very lovely note from a client who just finalized their mother`s estate.
We packed donations, packed the items to be shipped back to the west coast, assisted with the sorting of 40 boxes of paper, records, filing, photos and journals; donated several beds, dressers and linens to RISSE (Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus in Albany), cleaned up the grounds and more.
We supervised the move crew, finalized the cleanout to get the house empty for closing and gave the client a hug.
This was stressful and successful, with a relieved client at the end. Many things can be true at the same time.
