Aging in Place - How We Help
Over the many years we have been serving the Capital Region, Call Sheilah! has developed expertise in the area of senior transitions. Many of our clients are elderly individuals, some in the midst of a move to independent senior living or assisted care facilities. These types of transitions can be remarkably difficult on those who have lived in their homes for decades. Similarly, there are challenges if the transition doesn’t involve a relocation, but rather a reconfiguration of existing space to accommodate the changing needs of the occupants. This type of transition is called Aging in Place.
While some people do prefer the amenities of a senior living community, aging in place is the right of anyone, regardless of age or ability, to live safely and comfortably in their own community. In fact, 77% of those 50 years of age and older express the desire to age in their own home. I just recently moved to a new home that is a space I can age in safely and easily.
So, how do we help? With many of our clients choosing to age in place, some amount of downsizing and decluttering is nearly always required. Call Sheilah! will help simplify the home using our decluttering and downsizing services. Heirlooms are passed down, sellable items are sold, donatable items are donated, and debris is removed. We then partner with a licensed and certified Age in Place Occupational Therapist to create a home safety and accessibility plan. The therapist will assess a home for safety hazards and make recommendations for improvement, safety and mobility. These suggestions may include installing handrails, ramps, medical alert alarms, safety equipment, transition aides, and more. Here’s where we excel.
Our team helps execute the home safety and accessibility plan by researching and shopping for the recommended products, and by working with appropriate partner/vendors to oversee installations or building modifications. We project manage everything and keep all the moving parts and various players in sync. Our clients are left with a clutter-free, efficient, safe, and accessible home where they can live safely.
As our clients age in place, they may still find they want/need more hands-on support, or perhaps after years of aging place, they are ready to take advantage of the amenities offered in a senior living community. With the home already made efficient through downsizing, decluttering, and donation, the transition is made that much easier for our clients and their families, and you can count on Call Sheilah! to help with all the details of that move.
