We stumbled on these Life Magazines from 1943. There were about ten of them. All of them celebrated women, Black veterans, patriotism and the accomplishments of people for whom the odds were against. If only the celebration of what truly makes this country great, which is diversity, rich and deep history of different cultures and genders coming together, as well as our government supporting that excellence — if only it continued in earnest, our current situation would be something contained only in horror/fiction movies and books, instead of reality. #Resist

Even if this lovely woman spelled my name wrong, the placement of the note, in the middle of her desk above the lap top and monitor was an indicator, and she confirmed, that we were an integral part of the process.

(We had already packed the red pens or I would have made the edit.) 🖊

There are major differences between what generations will accumulate over time.

Typically our older clients collect water bottles, recyclable shopping bags, scrabble games, books on downsizing and decluttering, med containers, and a lot of moisturizer.

These folks, in their 20s, lean into their own neurospiciness by having plenty of different kinds of Slime on hand. Some people need to keep their hands busy, which can help them with focus. Slime is a stress relieving tool and gives a much needed break from reality. We all need that sometimes, especially today.

This is for sure the first time we wrote "Slime and other misc" as an identifier on a packed box.

We love the over simplification of the "simplify" sign.

One thing Call Sheilah! is great at, is over simplifying things, to balance out how people (our clients) will find themselves over complicating things. This is caused in part by the daunting stress of downsizing and moving and whatever personal struggles are happening in the background.

We understand this in our cells. In particular, because of the juxtaposition of signage hanging in the home, while surrounded by TOO MUCH STUFF. Some version of this sign is hanging in almost every home, while the humans are drowning in stuff and attachment to it.

We worked with this couple for two months, as they geared up for their move cross country to be closer to their kids and grand kids. They really needed to simplify for health issues among other things.

So, while we would never throw everything out, we will encourage you to let it go. Then we will talk thru and execute the myriad of ways we are able to donate and sell usable items to people living on the edge, and dispose of the rest in the most practical way possible. Today`s finds belong to a young queer couple.

We mostly get to work with people who have a more traditional life behind them than their lives going forward. We are keenly aware of that, especially when our clients are younger and less (way less!) traditional with a lot of life ahead.

These clients are supremely fun in a different way than our more typical clients. However, emotional and strong attachments to stuff, no matter how interesting or young the client is or how unique the stuff is - it still creates the same situation: too much stuff!
